Even as the 2011 Hyundai Verna RB will be launched tomorrow in New Delhi where prices and specifications will be announced, will the 2011 Hyundai Sonata or i45 follow next? This, as the sightings of non camouflaged Hyundai i45/Sonatas are increasing in and around Chennai every passing week. Hyundai India, which usually camouflages it’s cars while testing usually dumps the camo only close to the launch.
Thus, an undisguised Hyundai i45 doing the rounds on the Bangalore-Chennai highway prompts us to speculate whether Hyundai India is all set to usher in the i45/Sonata to India soon. The Hyundai Sonata has been selling in the many markets abroad including the US market where it has received rave reviews both for it’s “fluidic” in Hyundaispeak looks as well as the performance and economy the 2.4 Liter GDI petrol mill delivers.
The Hyundai i45 that was scooped by one of our regular readers who calls himselfDRG, was doing good speeds on the Bangalore-Chennai highway a few days ago. Now, in India the Sonata never really has gotten going despite being fairly large, priced well and featuring a good CRDI diesel engine. With the new Sonata, Hyundai India will want to make some dent in the Indian luxury car market and this might be their best opportunity yet.
However, that said, the Hyundai Sonata/i45 comes only with a 2.4 Liter direct injection petrol engine in both turbo and non turbo guise. Although this engine has been delivering good fuel economy numbers in road tests across the world, a diesel engine would be what could really get the i45 moving out of showrooms rapidly. Or will Hyundai India prefer to tackle the likes of the Honda Accord, the Volkswagen Passat and the Toyota Camry with just the petrol engine. This, is something only time can tell.
