The 2012 KLX450R is Kawasaki’s lightest, fastest and most powerful big-bore 4-stroke off-road race machine ever. It gets its key components straight out of the mighty KX450F motocrosser and adapts them for off-road racing. The KX450F’s high-powered, lightweight 4-stroke engine has been tweaked for more low-end torque and is mated to a special wideratio 5-speed transmission. Plus it comes with an electric starter.
The lightweight all-aluminium chassis is balanced to provide both quick turning and light handling over a variety of terrain. The high-spec AOS inverted fork and superb rear suspension from the KX450F have been tuned for off-road competition and to minimise rider fatigue over long distances.
Out of the crate, off-road competitors can now enjoy the same incredible engine and the same outstanding frame and suspension technologies as the class-leading KX450F, but in a bike purpose-built to excel in off-road racing.
The high-powered, lightweight 4-stroke engine is derived from the Championship Winning KX450F and features several tweaks including increased flywheel mass for greater low-end torque. | A lightweight, highly reliable electric start system is employed for fast, easy, trouble-free starting. A manual kick starter is retained as a backup. |
Featuring dual overhead camshafts lifting lightweight titanium valves with dual progressive valve springs, the KLX's head boasts revised cam lift and timing to boost low and mid range torque. The MX inspired aluminium chassis features centralised gravity and inertia points to deliver incredible traction, light handling and confidence inspiring high speed stability. |
Kayaba twin chamber forks take care of the big hits up front while Kawasaki's legendary Uni-Trak rear suspension gets the power to the ground. Fully adjustable damping at both ends provides easy tuning and setup. | Petal brake discs front and rear reduce unsprung weight, and help clean the brake pads for more efficient braking. The forged aluminium rear brake pedal has a heavy duty mounting bolt and a large “foot” with sharp teeth to provide a solid feel. An integrated rear brake fluid reservoir provides increased reliability. |
