Nissan cube and Nissan Cube3 (or Nissan cubed!)
The Nissan Cube and Nissan Cubic (cube3) are produced by Nissan and sold in Japan, this cool little MPV is now available in the UK through various Japanese car importers! However import parts are easy to find as the cube uses the underpinnings of the new Nissan Micra. This extremely compact and economical car has been a massive hit in Japan, the Cube has become the ‘must-have’ car for the stylish and fashionable in japan. After the successful launch of the cube at the Tokyo annual motor show in 1998 and the rapid sales therafter, the Japanese press referred to the car as ‘The car that swallowed Tokyo’! The cubic or cube3 is basically a stretched version of the Cube with a 7 seat capacity. The second generation of the Nissan Cube, released in 2002 with a more spacious interior and a modern combination of angled and curved surfaces, was based on the third generation of the March ( Nissan Micra in the UK).
Nissan cube 2002-2007The Cube boasts a truly huge and versatile cabin for the footprint of the car. The front bench has s a large central armrest hiding two stowage bins
underneath. There is more storage space under the chairs. The rear seats can easily accommodate two adults, and they can also slide back and forward and fold up for extra cargo space. On the road the Cube really excels in its natural urban habitat, the large glass area givess great visibility and a tight turning circle and short overhangs make town driving really easy. Reversing is aided by the extended glass area on the left-hand side of the car ( this makes it very akward for Nissan to produce a LHD drive version also!), the boot space itself is very impressive, plenty of room for typical family clutter.
2008 Nissan cube
There are plans to increase engine size and decrease drag caused by boxy shape of the cube for an introduction to the USA in 2008. The increase in engine size will be welcome as the one downside to the Cube is lack of performance, its adequate but no more and will probably feel a bit underpowered on the motorway or freeway. However once you get the car up to 70mph, it will cruise happily with about 2500rpm showing with the autobox.
