The German made Zundapp motors of 1934 was a real surprise package. The Zundapp K800 motorcycle was a horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine with shaft drive. The engine case enclosed the crankshaft, contact breaker, ignition coil, carburettor and dynamo. The removable cylinder heads were cast in aluminium. The Voxan Black Magic motorcycle are of course not mass built, but targeted to the passionate audience as Voxan exemplifies their passion of motorcycling. The Street Scrambler models, the Nouveau-Scrambler and Black Magic models, the Charade in 2006 and are all set to launch the Super Naked XV in 2008. All Voxan motorcycles use the same engines, a V-Twin with a 73° angle and 998cc of displacement. The Black Magic with its clear defining lines, a tight chassis characterizes the sophistication a biker may desire in a sports motorcycle.

The retro looking engine boasts of a 100hp V-2 mean machine and is meant for business and not just looking good. Although weighing at 210 kg, the fully adjustable Paioli Fahrwerk upside-down fork and horizontal absorber provides the rider always a safe feeling. Helped with the beautifully crafted footrests which are also adjustable. Its torque figures of 102Nm will ensure that your ride is smooth throughout with a smooth power development as well which can make it a good tourer bike although the positioning might be difficult for long tours.

Even the mileage is very good returning a impressive figure of 16 kmpl. The rpm is limited at 8000 and with such a high torque, there is ample of powerband between 6500 to 8000 rpm. In sporting terms, the soloseat saddle at 810mm, with the dome at the back and the exposed naked chain makes it a real stunner. The low handlebar also adds to negotiating the wind pressure and you will have all the whistles blowing at the top speed of 225 km/h. Vincent Black Lightning


This is Vincent Black Lightning was the first one in the USA. This motorcycle when owned by Joe Simpson, held the American motorcycles speed records three times. The first being unsupercharged and the following two being super charged. The bike was ridden by both Marty Dickerson and Joe Simpson. From the gloss black finish of the engine cases to the chrome rimmed upright speedometer and all the parts precisely torqued in place elsewhere, there is not a sign of illfitting tool abuse or stains from years of grime and use - the usual traits of age. The burble and rustle of moving parts aren`t smothered by the healthy exhaust note. TheVincent Black Lightning uses an air-cooled 998cc 50-degree V-twin with a claimed output of 55hp.

Vincent Rapide Series C review




The Vincent Rapide Series C motorcycle bolstered the Vincent reputation to new heights especially with innovations such as twin carbs and exhaust pointing forward rear cylinder V-Twin. Most of this engineering wizard was concealed by the petrol tank. With no frame to hold the engine, it appeared that the engine was now suspended in mid air with no visible means of support. It was in 44-th that Vincent dealerships started to emerge in the USA.

The dealerships liked the bikes, they were big, powerful and fitted the American idealistic dream. The Vincents reputation went before it when one such bike endured many miles of trouble free riding. However, early gearbox problems with a few bikes did knock some of the shine off the image and these problems were not fully resolved until 53-th when a new lightweight shifter was designed. Vincent motorcycles were reliable but nobody likes problems and mud sticks, in 2 more years it would all be over.

The Rapid Series A motorcycles was known as the plumber nightmare because of the jungle of oil tubes feeding the engine and was not the most desirable motorcycle of the Vincent Rapide line-up. The Vincent Comet C can almost be said to represent the ultimate stage in the development of the production engine 500ccm. Its successor, the series Vincent D was certainly designed, but the decision to cease motorcycle production in 1955 meant that officially, only one Vincent Comet D was built although a few more were built up from spares during 1956th.

The Victoria Bergneister motorcycle is a 350cc transverse V-twin, extremely robust, shaftdriven, with excellent castings and a classy deco design. There is no evidence that any bikes were produced in black or azure, though these options have appeared in print. The wheels were originally chromed with a stripe down the middle.

The Bergmeister was available with a solo saddle and a teardrop tank, or with a dual saddle and big, unattractive 4-gallon tank. Victory Kingpin Tour review


The Victory Kingpin Tour holds a big advantage over nearly other big bike in the cruising genre, in that it is a turnkey custom that is ready to ride off the showroom floor. The classically styled flared fenders are sweet looking, with metallic trim accent. At the 2007 model launch in California got to ride the Kingpin again and it still handles better than any other Victory included the Hammer S. The chassis have been good for years so it is mainly the choice of more conventional tyre sizes that contributes positively in the handling department.

Power comes from Victorys Freedom 110/6 V-Twin with overhead cams and four-valves per cylinder, plus EFI electronic fuel injection, and is routed to the rear wheel through a 6-speed transmission with true 6-speed overdrive and standard heel rocker shift lever. Exhaust exits through staggered right-side, slash cut dual pipes. The primary drive consists of a torque compensated gear, while the final drive is a carbon fiber reinforced belt. Which is a shame, because the excellent tractions afforded by the similarly up sized 180 series rear tempt you to taste the Kingpin excellent 4-piston front disc and drive deep into corners. The Polaris launched Victory motorcycles and 6-years ago work started on the Vision luxury tourers. Six years and many million dollars later the Vision Tour and Street is a finished product.

Nothing so far in Victory nine-year history would have led us to believe that they would make this machine. Well engineered traditional cruisers in the heavy weight V-twin mold have been the staple of its lineup. The Victory Vision - its touring machines have been standard cruisers gussied up with saddlebags and windshield. Victorys goal was a touring machine with American V-twin power but with the sophistication to stand up to the best long-distance machines in the business, the Honda Gold Wing and theBMW K1200LT. Some may have expected Victory version of Harley-Davidsons Electra Glide baggers, but, as Victory has learned, swaying the HD faithful is as likely to happen as dragging an alcoholic from the bar at happy hours.

Big touring machines mean a lot of weight, so Victory began by enlarging its existing 50degree V-twin 100 cubic inch (1640ccm) engine to 1737cc by an 8-mm increase in stroke. Special attention was paid to the requirements of touring. Electrical capacity was boosted to 50amps from 39, first gear was lowered slightly while sixth was raised, and internal oil passages in the air and oilcooled engine were modified for more efficient cooling. A hydraulic clutch was added, and since the solidly mounted engine was going to be used as a stressed member, it was reinforced. Vespa GTS250 review



Following on from the success of the VespaGT, Italian giants Piaggio have recently launched the Vespa GTS 250. The GTS models looks pretty similar to the GT but has a few minor styling differences that help to set it apart. The mudguard crest, rear light, front horncasting light and the chrome folding rear rack are some of the most obvious changes. The GTS also boasts a neat digital display which houses a clock, fuel gauge, temperature and rev counter alongside the analogue speedo with its distinctive white fascia. Probably the most significant change though is the all new 250cc fuel injected engine which Piaggio claim produces 22hp and which makes it the fastest Vespa to ever come off the production line. Velocette Truxton Venom review




The Velocette Truxton Venom, designed in 1965 by Bertie Goodman, was almost an instant legend after a series of impressive results on various racing tracks, where its average speed often exceeded 100mph. This high performance production racer, which was also sold over the counter in road going version, was a perfect choice for both the fast touring enthusiast and the racing buff. Standard equipment on the Velocette Thruxton were rearward placed foot rests and brake and gear pedals, closeratio 4-speed gearbox, aluminium wheel rims, duplex front brake and John Tickle clipons. Output was a healthy 41hp, 5 more than the Venom.

Roughly 1000 Thruxtons were produced between 1967 and end of production in early 1971 with the dispatch of VMT1208C to Canada. Superbly engineered but built frugally in the Goodman family tradition, exhaust profiles were altered merely by reprofiling the lifters rather than replacing the cam. Velocette LE tool boxes became the new battery box and when John Tickle produced front backing plates became too expensive, they came up with their own slightly altered design. Subtle changes such as sand cast heads with different valve stem geometry to enable fitment of two-inch intake valves and hardened engine cases ensured these machines durably up to their cafe racer appearance.
