Manufactured at a purpose built factory in Yorkshire the Scott Flying Squirrel was one of the models that made Scott motorcyclesfamous. The pioneer responsible for founding the marque, was Alfred Scott. His innovative engine designs were influenced by an apprenticeship in marine engineering and are still the basis of 2-stroke engines. Scott also built the first motorcycle to be fitted with a kick-start, and was granted patents for the vertical twin-engine and the triangulated frame. After major pre war successes at the TT, Scott left the company in 1919. Fully triangulated frame and a truncated oval fuel tank filling the space between the frame and engine.
This, with a centrally sprung front girder fork, a forerunner of conventional telescopics, provided excellent holding road. The 498cc rotary valve 180 degree 2-stroke engine received water cooled circulation due to convection known as the thermosyphon system. The bottom end was located in an alloy casting with the block painted either green or red for racing or road respectively, and features a centrally positioned flywheel, novel twin inboard main bearings, overhung crankpins and doors allowing access to the engine. A redesigned three speed gearbox, a multi-plate clutch and the repositioned magneto were all major improvements. Morespecs and user manual of Scott Flying you can see in next overview.
