The Z 500 of 1926 was the first DKW motorcycle with a twin-cylinder engine. This was initially air-cooled, but a water-cooled version was introduced in 1927 the ZSW 500. From this model, the DKW SPORT 500 was derived two years later, with a modern saddle tank, a tubular frame and the 500 cc twin-cylinder two-stroke engines power output increased to 13 kW.
