The Selly Oak company of Ariel first produced the sporting model Ariel Red Hunter in 1932, this example is of 1934 vintage and is believed to be one of the first foot change models.
An old buff log book covering the ownership back to 1956 is present along with expired moto and V5, still in possession of its original registration number the Hunter 350cc is a fine unmolested machine.
The Red Hunter was quite a good looking machine for its time coming in both 350 and 500cc sizes, it was produced from 1932 until the late 1950s. A late 1930s Red Hunter NH 500 was among the best bikes of its day, capable of well over 75 mph and reliable at the same time. The Red Hunter NH handling was supplied by its girder front forks and rigid rear end. Rear suspension was introduced in 1939. When production was recommenced after the Second World War, it received telescopic forks and an alloy cylinder head. In the 1950s it received an update frame. After World War II, the Red Hunter became Ariel`s best-sellingmotorcycle. It won more competitive events in trials as well as scrambles and road-racing.
